چکیده

Microalgae photobioreactor systems at the University of Dayton Research Institute’s (UDRI) Carbon Sequestration and Bio Fuel Laboratory are being used to investigate algae’s ability to capture CO2, clean wastewater, and produce algae biomass that can be used for carbon neutral biofuel generation. Algae cultivation is of interest because it does not require arable land or fresh water, and algae are fast growing organisms capable of doubling their numbers in about eight hours.

The carbon-sequestration potential of municipal wastewater treatment.

The lack of proper wastewater treatment results in production of CO(2) and CH(4) without the opportunity for carbon sequestration and energy recovery, with deleterious effects for global warming. Without extending wastewater treatment to all urban areas worldwide, CO(2) and CH(4) emissions associated with wastewater discharges could reach the equivalent of 1.91 x 10(5) t(CO2)d(-1) in 2025, with...

Microalgae for biodiesel production and other applications: A review

Sustainable production of renewable energy is being hotly debated globally since it is increasingly understood that first generation biofuels, primarily produced from food crops and mostly oil seeds are limited in their ability to achieve targets for biofuel production, climate changemitigation and economic growth. These concerns have increased the interest in developing second generation biofu...

Investigating the effect of BIODROF systems based on algae-bacterial biofilm for removing COD and TOC from domestic wastewater

Along with the development of urbanization over the past century, water consumption in urban areas rose sharply. Produce large amounts of waste in cities around the world on the one hand, and restricted access to freshwater resources, on the other, increase the requirement to regard for recycling of domestic wastewater. Especially in the Middle East region, that has an arid and semiarid climate...
